how do i get a job

Being an engineering graduate, why i am not getting a job

In general the Engineering graduates studying  in reputed colleges have Campus placement Drive and these students have very good exposure to extra curricular activities like conferences, webinars and symposiums. We could see the following 5 reasons for your searching for a job after passing out from your college.

The 1st Miss:

There is also a good number of cases that some of the students may either miss to attend such placement drives due to some personal emergencies during the placement drive event

The 2nd Miss:

Though you may have attended the placement  drive you may not succeeded in the competitive placement drive.

The 3rd Miss:

If you would have succeeded in the placement drive, you may not have been fascinated by the company or the professionals that addressed you and would have decided to not accept the offer.

The 4th Miss:

If you would have succeeded in the placement drive, you may have been willing to choose a better company and eventually in the successive drives. But that would not have materialised in your favour and you have kept on looking for more chances and resulted in worst cases than earlier.

The 5th Miss:

You are from a college that may not have a campus placement drive.

However there is still a great chance might have been waiting for you .Usually in the campus placements the  companies have the right expectation that the students does not have the right exposure of a corporate work environent and exposure and there is no mismatch of expectation.Hence you will successful if you are pursuing in a campus  placement.

Ok you missed it,so what. Why can’t you act now

Ok i missed it What Next
Ok i missed it What Next

But if you are looking for off-campus placement the expectation is quite opposite. The hiring companies want you to be productive at the earliest.Hence they always looks for the skills that can contribute to the productivity at the earliest and hence they are fine to give a minimal training to get you started. But if you lack right skills in demand or behavioral skills then getting a job may be a little hard.So it is always good to give confidence to the hiring manager that you will be a quick starter at your work and a good fit in the team. How can you do that.

  1. You need to have many and right skill added to your resume.A plain resume of your graduation year and the percentage does not carry much weightage as that is not going to make you add value to the company or their business
  2. Having projects in the resume, that tell more about your clarity of concepts and technical expertise on the skills that you claim.,
  3. Be clear and articulate well what you have mentioned in the resume.
  4. Havings projects and internships and explaining them well will have a clear edge than the others. After all the hiring manager want you to do more of such projects ,why will he reject if you have the right skills
  5. Ensure your resume has additional skills more than what you studied in your college and practical outcome like  projects that indicates that you have applied your learning to create something of your own gives more confidence to the hiring manager. There are lot of career focussed programs that train you exactly that.It pays off to start your career at the earliest than wasting several years and realising this later.
